Eurasian Wigeon (and Hybrids)
South of Cayuga Lake State Park - 23 March 2007.
This American x Eurasion Wigeon hybrid was seen near the intersection of Lower Lake Rd. and Hw89.Interestingly, a pure looking Eurasion Wigeon was seen near this exact spot the following day.
The huge congregation of waterfowl at this end of the lake also contained some
Long-tailed Ducks, which were photographed nearby that same afternoon.
Compare the head pattern of this bird with the American Wigeon behind it,
and with the young male Eurasion Wigeon in the photos below.
