Canvasback

Cayuga Lake State Park, 23 March 2007

 These were among thousands of ducks and geese seen around this time
at the north end of the lake. I believe one could get an idea of
the number of birds in the area from the eBird entries during that week.


Note the Ring-necked Duck in the back and the
male Canvasback eating something in the foreground.


Note the closed wings on this diving bird.



Here is a female Canvasback with three males.
