Western and Clark's Grebes



Can you identify which of these birds are Westerns and which are Clark's???



Here are a few key things to look for:

Where does the black & white border occur on the face? It should be above the eye in Clark's, and below in Western. If you can't see the eye, you can still get an idea where the black/white border lies on the birds face. The difference can be subtle, but is clear, in the above photos.

Next, have a look at bill color. The photos aren't easy to compare here, but if you look carefully you can see that the Clark's have a brighter yellow bill than the slightly more dull yellow bill of Westerns.
